"Homemaking Matters" by Marci Ferrell - A Book Review
Eye opening, scripture packed, gentle but honest...
It is easy to get lost in our list of daily chores and lose sight of their value. Sure, my family appreciates their clean clothes or the dinner I prepare, but when we do these tasks, are we doing them in the right heart?
Marci Ferrell does an amazing job calling out everyday women, who want to serve God and their families well but, maybe, have lost their perspective and gently guides the mind back to where our focus should be. Are we doing all things as though we were doing them for the Lord?
Each chapter breaks down a different element of homemaking: for example - hospitality, mothering, being a wife, not just keeping the home but cultivating the environment. While each section is discussed practically, Marci points the reader back to creating a home where there is a sense of warmth, love, and a presence of God in the center of it all.
I appreciate that at the end of each chapter there are also thought-provoking questions to help you apply what you've read to your own life situation and season.
I have so many highlighted sections and notes from this text but my biggest takeaway, as a mom of many - my "plan" usually never happens because someone else needs something and this was always a source of frustration, Marci writes that interruptions are really invitations. This has stuck in my mind ever since reading the line. I have become much more aware of my children's needs when those moments happen and its made me pause and think about, in those situations, what is really the most important thing in that moment? Is it having uninterrupted Bible and coffee time or can I read my Bible to my little while still drinking my coffee plus getting snuggles?
I highly recommend this book for all ladies, no matter their season of life - single, kids, empty nester... Marci Ferrell's book is jam packed with biblical truth that we all need to hear.
